Well Loved Cattle Make Tender Beef
At Dirigo Ranch, our goal is to serve our cattle, until they serve us.
We believe in giving our livestock a natural lifestyle, in the peaceful woodlands surrounding our ranch. We provide nutrient dense feed for our cattle from hay, to local spent brewer's grains from local Berwick brewery, Corner Point Brewing Company, and natural forage, and we have ensured our water has been tested and well rated.
When raising livestock for consumption, we know that the right way, is the only way. We are Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certified, and believe in practicing the best animal husbandry we can.
Cost Per Share
The deposit for your share will be directly applied to the total invoice. You will receive a second invoice with your remaining total due at pick up, via e-mail notification.
The cost is based on hanging weight (the weight of the cow carcass after initial slaughter and processing). Butcher fees are built into the cost.
What's Included?
When your share is returned from the butcher, you will receive an equal, quarter of each of the available cuts from the total (this may include ground beef, various steaks, roasts, etc.).
All meat will be pre-packaged and Maine State Inspected for retail sale. The state of Maine is in a cooperative with the USDA and follows the same guidelines for inspection, cleanlieness, and humane slaughter.
A quarter share of beef requires approximately 4 cubic feet of freezer space (about twice your average freezer attached to the fridge). This equates to approximately 100 lbs (boxed weight) of meat, and will feed two adults for up to one year (these values are subject to beef consumption levels and variable weight of the cattle - normally between 1,200 and 1,800 lbs, live).
When the Cattle Come Home
When the shares are returned from the butcher facility, they must be obtained on the scheduled pick-up date at Dirigo Ranch. This date will be sent via e-mail notification in advance, with directions. All meat will be frozen and boxed.
It is recommended that you bring a cooler (or multiple) if your drive is 2 hours or more away.
